Monoprints are known as the most painterly method among printmaking techniques. The characteristic of this method is that no two prints are alike. The beauty of the medium is also in its spontaneity and its combination of printmaking, painting and drawing media.“I’m excited by this opportunity to share my experience, my studio, and my etching press with a few (maximum eight) artists of varying calibers, to facilitate their creation of monoprints/monotypes. I have explored monoprints for over 30 years, having a press, “The Beast” for 25 years. In this workshop we will explore using an 8”x10” zinc plate, a full pallet of etching inks, and archival printing paper. We will use two basic techniques. The first is a painterly approach, the second, a more graphic.“The introductory session is about gaining some confidence with basic techniques of painting on a metal plate. We might create a “ghost” or two, a second impression taken from the plate which produces a faint replica of the original. We will use a still life, most likely fresh flowers and fabric.“The second session will explore printing on top of your first image once or twice, altering your image slightly and printing again. You could use my subject matter (flowers, fabric, etc.), or your own set up, picture, or imagination.” – Brooke Bishop* Prerequisite: Attending introductory class or previous experience in monoprinting.FEE: $45 per session includes all art supplies. Register early and save! Only $80 for both classes if registered by July 1st.LOCATION: Olympic Heights, Truckee. Address and directions will be provided after registration.Registration closes July 10th. Please send any questions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
